Trade Mark Policy

How you can refer to Nib and Nib UI, and what needs our permission.

Last updated

Draft
This document is a draft under review by our solicitors. It isn't in force yet and may change before it's published.

Wex Labs Limited makes Nib. This policy explains how you can refer to our names and brand assets. It applies whatever licence our code is under: open-source licences cover code, not trade marks.

1. Our marks

  • Names: Nib™ and Nib UI™.
  • Brand assets: the Nib logo, the Nib wordmark, the Nib app icon and Nib the mascot, in every pose and material.

We've applied to register NIB as a trade mark in the United Kingdom. We use ™, not ®, until a registration is granted.

2. What you can do without asking

  • Refer to Nib or Nib UI in plain text, accurately: for example "works with Nib", "built with Nib UI" or "uses @nibapp/ui".
  • List our packages as dependencies.
  • Link to our website and documentation.
  • Write about Nib in articles, reviews, tutorials and talks, as long as it's clear you're not us.

3. What needs our written permission

  • Using "Nib", or a name confusingly similar to it, in the name of your product, company, app, domain, package or social account.
  • Using our logo, wordmark, app icon or mascot, or anything that looks like them.
  • Suggesting that we made, endorse, sponsor or partner with your product.
  • Merchandise.

4. Forks and modified versions

If you modify Nib UI or another project of ours, give your version its own name and visual identity. You may say in plain text that it's "based on Nib UI". Don't present a modified version, or a product that copies Nib's overall look together with our names or mascot, as Nib or as made by us.

5. Asking and reporting

To ask for permission, or to report a misuse, write to legal@nib.gg.
